These days, it seems like nearly every aspect of your home can be controlled via a simple smartphone app. With smartphones growing in power and versatility, mobile apps are becoming an increasingly popular way for homeowners to make their homes more energy-efficient while saving money. These apps run the gamut from apps that actually control your home’s thermostat to apps that can help remind you when it’s time to have your HVAC system serviced.

Here’s a short list of mobile apps that every homeowner should have in his or her smartphone:

  • Nest – The Nest learning thermostat also comes with its own app, giving you complete control of your Nest thermostat. Not only can you use this mobile app to change temperatures, but you can also adjust fan settings, set a heating or cooling schedule and review your energy history.
  • HomeLogic Mobile Control – This iOS-only app goes a bit farther than the aforementioned Nest app, giving you control over your home’s networked lighting, heating and alarm systems.
  • BrightNest – Sometimes you just need a reminder or two. The BrightNest app offers the tools to create a home maintenance schedule so you won’t forget about air filter changes and other minor changes.
  • QuikFix A/C – Not everyone is an expert when it comes to HVAC troubleshooting, which is where this helpful app comes in. You can use this mobile app to troubleshoot and diagnose your HVAC system’s woes.

Keep in mind this is just a small sampling of the mobile apps you can expect in the near future, if not right now.
